The Tail of the Lotus Dragon

Locals will tell you that you will have a hard time finding a straight road in East Tennessee. The Smokies and their foothills make sure of that.

Have you ever heard of The Tail of the Dragon? Just 45 minutes from the LOG 42 hotel will start an exhilarating journey to Deals Gap, North Carolina. Over the 11 miles of ā€œThe Dragonā€, you will slalom your way through many, many turns of lovely views. At the end of the drive, you can ultimately say that you slew The Dragon.

Situated in East Tennessee, Knoxville has the prettiest countryside anywhere to be found in The United States, with cityscapes of Downtown to the splendid views of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Additional Activities

A Pigeon Forge Bus Trip (Sunday) will bring you to The Island Family Fun Center for tons of entertainment possibilities. Try the
Escape Room, sample some moonshine, or just stroll around and enjoy some bluegrass music at this giant walking friendly park.

East Tennessee offers you so many options. If food is your thing try the Tapoco Tavern after you have slain the Dragon. Just a 6 minute drive further into North Carolina where you can relax with a beverage and some their famous Trout nā€™ Chips outside on their expansive deck.

Sticking closer to Knoxville you can take a tour of Historic Gay Street. Take time to explore Mast General Store, shop in Knoxvilleā€™s Market Square and more. August gets warm in Knoxville. Donā€™t miss your chance to get a ā€œSassy Cowā€ at Cruz Farm Dairy.

And donā€™t forget the drives that you have not been able to enjoy yet. Of course there is the Tail of The Dragon but there is so much more. (Here is a tip for you. If you want to drive the Dragon, do it on a weekday. The Dragon is world famous and very gets busy in
the summer especially on weekends.)

Brushy Mountain and The Devilā€™s Triangle is also a great drive through the hills. Here is a silly fact for you. Brushy mountain was once a working Tennessee State Penitentiary. Many of the ā€œguestsā€ were convicted moonshiners. The irony here is once the penitentiary closed the distillery opened! Take the tour and learn about Brushy Mountainā€™s previous, and infamous, residents. Have some barbeque at the Captainā€™s Table.

East Tennessee has no shortage of museums. Drive the loop in Cades Cove to see what life was like before The Great Smoky Mountains became a Nation Park. If you would like to take in the history and culture the Museum of Appalachia is the best way to do it. Gain an appreciation for the contribution Oak Ridge made during World War IIā€™s Manhattan Project.

Highlight and Guest Speaker

This Lotus Mark VI owned by Patrick Dennis will be spotlighted at LOG 42ā€™s headquarters hotel. The Mark VI is the first production Lotus car introduced by Colin Chapman back in 1952. It was the first Lotus to compete outside of England, and the first to be imported into North America.

David Hobbs, the famous race car driver and past NBC commentator, was seen at the Amelia Island Concours in March. He will be the featured guest speaker at the LOGā€™s Saturday night banquet.

So, if you havenā€™t seen a Mark VI or met racing celebrity David Hobbs, come to LOG 42 in Knoxville, Tennessee this coming August 25.

Donā€™t wait register for LOG 42 now!

LOG 42 Contests
LOG Contest
Ā© T. Spera

Why should you enter any of the contests?  Why not? It gives you chance to show off your handy work and a trophy from a national event is nothing to sneeze at.  Also for those attendees who, for whatever reasons, cannot bring their cars, this is another way to participate and feel involved.  This is the same reason that, if I have a spare seat, I try to take someone from the hotel to the concours field who did not bring or maybe has not yet purchased a Lotus.  They always seem to enjoy it.

One thing I occasionally hear is ā€œI canā€™t take photos as good as himā€ or ā€œIā€™ll never beat them as they spend too muchā€™ā€™.  Money spent doesnā€™t really influence voters and the idea behind the photo or craft is more important than the skill of the entrant.  The best and most clever ideas normally win.  Hopefully we can get enough entries in the contests to justify more than just having first place trophies. —Click here to know more
